Welcome to the
Home of Maltese Għana
Maltese għana (song), pronounced aana,
the għ is silent, is the generalised
term for the indigenous Maltese
folk-singing which consists of
quatrains, ideally extemporised,
following a rhyme scheme of a-b-c-b, and
sung to traditional tunes, generally
accompanied by a number of guitars. |

This section of the website seeks
to provide information on Maltese traditional
folksong Għana in order to make it available to
local and foreign researcher, and to all who wish to
find more about the people who keep this tradition
alive, the Maltese Folksingers and Guitarists.
This whole website was formally known as the
"Homepage of Maltese Għana", but due to the word
Għana being sometimes mistaken for the country of
Għana, and also due to the inclusion of other
sections being added to the website, the name was
then changed to its present name of allmalta.com.
On the 9th of August 1998, this website became the
first ever website to broadcast Maltese language
programmes over the Internet with an għana programme
kindly donated by Super One Radio (Malta), followed
two weeks later by a programme donated by SBS Radio
(Australia). Own programmes were later introduced
and continued to be heard on the Internet until
September 2004 when due to the growing expense, and
time needed to produce these programmes, I had to
stop them.
Like the rest of the website, some articles in this
section are written in Maltese whilst others in
English. I hope you find this section both
instructive and entertaining. |
