Members of Reskeon Seniors Group had their Christmas Luncheon at La
Mirage Convention and Reception Centre on the 16th of December.
Mr David Galea, Functions Manager, offered the group the Oasis Ballroom,
which is the largest hall of the centre.
Members start arriving at around 10.30 am, all dressed up for the
occasion. On arriving, they were treated to drinks and hors d'ouvres
before it was time for them to take their
place at the tables. Around 300 members and
friends were present. The hall was

the day was Mr Edwin Baldacchino.
The day started with the playing of the Maltese National Anthem followed
by the Australian Anthem, Advance Australia Fair. Members accompanied
the anthems with their singing. The first course was fish with rice which was fit for the main course.
The main course was chicken and veal on the same plate with vegies. Christmas pudding with custard was served as dessert.
White and red wine, beer and soft drinks were served all day.
The music for the day was provided by The Rainbows.
The Consul General of Malta in Victoria, Mr Clemente Zammit and Mrs Mary
Zammit were among the distinguished guests. President John Gauci in his speech thanked Mr David Galea for offering
the use of the large hall, so that those attending were more
comfortable. He also thanked Mr Fred Depares, the Social Secretary for
the good job he did on the day. After wishing everyone a happy Christmas
and a good new year, he invited Mr Clemente Zammit to say a few words.

But before handing the microphone to Mr
Zammit, Mr Gauci announced that the day
before, Mr Zammit was awarded by MQR by the Maltese Government.
Mr Zammit gave a short talk by thanking Mr Gauci and his committee for
their hard work in running this group. He thanked them for once again
inviting him and Mrs Zammit to such a function, even though sometimes
it's not easy to attend. He continued by saying that at the
moment we were celebrating the 25th Anniversary since Malta became a Republic.
Regarding the honour he received with the
award of the MQR, he said this came as a
surprise to him. This was in recognition of
his work with the Maltese Community. But, he
continued, this was his job to look after
the interests of Malta, and the |

Maltese in Victoria. He said that not
only did he want to share his award with the whole
community, but that he
wanted to offer it as a gift to them. He also mentioned that Reskeon was
represented on his website which he launched on the net a few weeks
before and "Jum il-Maltin" was featured there. He finished by wishing
all those present and their families and friends all the best for
Christmas and the new year.
After this, Mr Tony Stivala, thanked Mr John Gauci and the committee for
their hard work on behalf of all the members. Then the raffle was drawn. A special prize of a bottle of Champagne for
the Year 2000 was donated by Mr David Fuller on behalf of the HSBC Bank
Malta plc.
Members danced all day and enjoyed themselves. Again, they showed their
appreciation for this day which was organised for them. The committee once again would like to thank all the members for their
behaviour and help during the year. Special thanks to Mr David Galea and the Galea family, and the waiters
and waitresses for their wonderful job looking after us during the day.
They had a hard job and they did it wonderfully. |
