 To Canada with my parents

by Vinnie Cristina

My father had been in the Army for 24 years. When his duty was finished he brought us all  (10 children) here, to Canada for a better future. My mother wanted to go to Australia, and I wish my father listened to her, especially in the winter time here. I love Canada, but if I had a wish, I want to go to Malta and spend the rest of my life there.

I was 15 years old when I came to Toronto. The only thing that surprised me was the snow. Now I cannot stand it. I am not a winter person. I love the Spring and Summer seasons.

My father passed away 4 years ago this Nov. 15, God Rest His Soul. We miss him very much. He worked hard all his life. He was a postman in Toronto for 25 years. Nobody in Malta remember him, how he fought in the army and also lost his brother at the age of 25 years old. He was not even mentioned on a Maltese website where they mentioned all the soldiers. His family, which now includes his 29 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren are deeply hurt about this, but here in Toronto, we will never forget him.

I am proud of being his daughter. He was proud to be Maltese, and he thought us to be proud and always speak Maltese. Even my sister who was 6 months old when we arrived in Canada, can speak Maltese. I am sorry I had to get this out. I am very hurt, that no one appreciated what he done for Malta and the Maltese People.

Thank you for letting me write this out. Thank you John and thank you for your Ghana Website. I love everything you do and the hard work you put into it.
