Johnny Navarro

The most popular and never forgotten actor Johnny Navarro was born in Valletta, Navarro was educated at the Instituto Umberto I, St. Augustine College, and Flores College, Valletta. He joined the civil service during the war and served with the war damage commission; the department of emigration, and social welfare; the department of emigration, and social welfare; the Tourist Board and the audit department until his retirement in 1971.

Navarro has performed in various theatres and halls all over the Maltese islands, playing leading roles in English, Italian and Maltese.

A versatile actor, Navarro has taken part in plays, operettas, reviews and festivals and contributed to over 2000 features. He has also produced variety programmes on Rediffusion. Johnny Navarro took part in many teleplays, including Ix-Xorti ta' Manzell by Francis Ebejer and l-Ahhar Editorjal by Fr. W. Born. He was awarded the Malta Drama League "Oscar' for best actor in 1959. He also had a speaking part in the film Midnight Express.

Navarro was marred to Mary Inguanez and they had four daughters, Gladys, Marlene, Marcella and Valerie.
