Nosi Ghirlando

Nosi Gerlando was born in Sliema (22.10.08 - 01.08.640), and received his education at the Lyceum. He entered the civil service in 1929 and in 1949 he was promoted principal officer, having served for a long period at the law courts as the assistant registrar.

Ghirlando had a brilliant career, which included drag acts at that time on Rediffussion. In 1954 he teamed up with the Radju Muskettieri, a company with which he worked until his death. His vocal capabilities and sharp memory put him at the forefront of Maltese Comedy. His meticulous attention to detail in his drag act ensured continuing popularity.

Among the comedies in which showed his talents were Hekk Sejra and Il-Kurunella written by Gino Muscat Azzopardi, and the role he devised for himself in It-Tieg ta' Karmena Abdilla premiered at the Radio City in Hamrun. This comedy toured the island and was even adapted for radio.

Ghirlando brought up a large family alone after the untimely death of his wife Emma Wright who died at the age of 36 years in 1942.
